Name: Shauna Burke

Teams represented: Craughwell, GMIT and the Galway senior camogie team.

Age: 20

Typical weekly training / game schedule: Gym session Monday and Thursday. Pitch session Friday and Sunday depending on games. Club games played during the week.

Favourite Manager(s), and why? Ann Freaney. Ann is part of the reason I have achieved what I have achieved so far. She is extremely dedicated, fair and always ensures players are given every opportunity to fulfil their potential.

Sporting Hero: Brendan Cummins

Best thing about being an intercounty player: Playing at the top level representing not only your county but your club, family and friends as well.

Funniest thing to ever happen: We were getting ready for a county final one day. I had just stepped into my skort and was about to pull it up when our trainer at the time Mike gave a knock to the door, presumed everyone was ready and walk in. Instead of hiding and covering up I decided to take a leap across the dressing room floor hoping that I would land in the showers but instead I landed in the middle of the floor, skort around my ankles and in a lot of pain. My two knees were all cut and had to be bandaged up before the game started. I for sure got a shock but Mike got a bigger one!!

Favourite team mate/player: Ailish O’Reilly

Hardest thing about playing at county level: Getting the balance right between camogie and college is definitely the hardest. Being organised and planning ahead is key really.

One rule you would like to change: Hand pass into the goal rule.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever been given: If you’re going to do something, do it right or don’t do it at all.

Favourite interest / talent / hobby away from GAA: Golf, I don’t play as much as I would like to as it is very time consuming.

Three words other people would use to describe you: Generous, Competitive, Determined.

What are you most proud of so far (on or off the field!): Being part of the Galway senior camogie panel amongst players that I have looked up to for years.
