Karakal and the Women’s Gaelic Players’ Association have teamed up to launch a new WGPA-branded hurling grip, which will be on-sale nationwide and online. In a first of its’ kind innovation for Karakal in any sport, the WGPA logo is embossed directly onto the grip, as well as carrying the branding on the product packaging.
Research conducted by the WGPA showed Karakal to be the most popular grip of choice amongst the current players; significantly 4 times more popular than other grips. Players joining Karakal to mark the launch included Down’s Niamh Mallon, Dublin’s Aisling Maher and Galway’s Niamh McGrath.
Also involved in the launch, Cork’s Gemma O’Connor welcomed the initiative and the increased recognition it brings for Camogie players “It’s great for us to see these things happening specifically to benefit players and raise their profile. We’re delighted to see Karakal and the WGPA pushing forward in this way and I’d hope it will be well supported by the wider community in Gaelic games.”
Speaking at the launch, Jenny Lynam (Brand Manager, Karakal Ireland) said ““We are excited to have this opportunity to partner with the WGPA on creating the first of its kind PU grip collection within the Karakal brand, and in turn delighted to have the ability to supply the World’s no.1 PU grip as the official grip of the WGPA. As a brand we see this as an important step to promote and support the camogie players and women in Gaelic games.”
The WGPA branding will appear on the Karakal PU Super Grip in both regular and XL sizes. The grips will be available in assorted colours in multi-pack boxes and the XL grip will also be available to buy in individual blister packs. Retailers including Elverys, Sports Direct and local independent stores such as Cummins Sports will stock the grips. They will also be available to buy through retailers online platforms and directly at www.karakal.ie.
A percentage of every sale will go towards the WGPA Player Development fund, supporting initiatives such as scholarships, development coaching and counselling supports for players. The 3 year agreement also includes product sponsorship for all WGPA members playing Camogie as well as joint promotional activities and competitions.
